ABIOLA ABRAMS' WRITING TO BE PERFORMED AT THE HIP HOP THEATER FESTIVAL

Book launch alert!!

The latest anthology to feaure my writing "SAY WORD" will be celebrated at the Hip Hop Theater Festival on October 29th. Writing from my very first professional writing, a play named 'Goddess City," which was produced off Broadway in the late 90s is featured in the book. "Goddess City" is a hip hop theater play exploring themes of women and the quest for personal power. The concept for the show was born on the campus of Sarah Lawrence when I had the pleasure of meeting Ntozake Shange, author of "for colored girls."

I wanted to create a work that spoke to the women of my generation and explored our issues. The show was successful because I was so fearless at the time. I was fearless mostly because I was too young to understand that what I was trying to do was supposed to be "impossible."

Come on out to the La Mama Theater to celebrate "Goddess City," the "Say Word" book launch and hip hop theater with us.
